Let Your Heart Rule Your Thoughts, Character and Actions
|Christians wonder why they have so many problems when the Bible promises us that we are above and not below, the head and not the tail and victorious over all of our circumstances.|
Deuteronomy 28:1-13 King James Version (KJV)
28 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.
For years I’ve read over and meditated upon verses 1-13 of Deuteronomy 28 because they give us a two-fold message we need to remind ourselves of often.
- It tells us how to be blessed by God
- Then it lists the blessings we can expect.
You Let Your Heart Rule Your Thoughts
I’ve heard Christians say things like, “Why is this happening to me?” or “I’m a good person, but God must be paying me back for things I’ve done wrong.” There are other comments Christians make during difficult times, but these two are common.
Asking these questions is quite revealing as to what kind of a relationship one has with God and their knowledge of the nature of God. We get to know God first through the scriptures and then through our personal relationship with Him. Through God’s forgiveness, love, grace and mercy we can expect God to protect us and give us great blessings. God forgives our sins as if they never were once we ask for and then receive forgiveness.
Our wrong thinking about God will keep us from experiencing our blessings. Becoming a Christian doesn’t make you free from problems. But it gives you a way to have victory over them. By asking God for help and then trusting Him to help you, you’ll keep yourself from stress and worry while God takes care of your problems.
Instead of thinking thoughts that God is causing your problems, see Him as your Heavenly Father who has provided a way out of them. The enemy is the one who brings your troubles, not God. Through Jesus Christ you are redeemed or in good standing with God. He sees you as His child. Don’t you want to help your children? We’ll God is the love behind your desire to make your children’s lives the best they can be. Therefore God can only love you and take care of you.
So instead of thinking that God is the one bringing pain or trouble into your life, think instead that God will find a way through the situation to give you victory. Say instead that you are a “victor” in Christ. Then expect God to come through for you.
You Let Your Heart Rule Your Soul
Man is a spirit who lives in a body and who has a soul. Knowing this information gives us a clear picture of how we can grow spiritually and closer to God. By being spirit ruled or dominated, we can control our bodies souls and minds to conform to the Word of God as I have just mentioned about having control over our thoughts. Allowing our spirits to control our souls means that we are able to live a mentally healthy and stable lifestyle because our lives won’t be dominated by negative emotions and wrong thinking.
We can take control over our emotions just as we can our thoughts by acting upon the Word of God rather than allowing our emotions to lead us into a state of fear or doubt that we can succeed over problems and in our lives. Falling into emotions can call all of the following:
and many other emotional and mental disorders.
I’m not an expert on any of the above, but I have helped those with severe depression, depression, anxiety and stress turn those conditions around through God’s Word. I couldn’t do anything on my own to help them because I’m not an expert, but with God’s intervention through scripture, each of these persons were able to heal over time and live on top of their circumstances rather than have highs and lows through emotional upheavals.
With the exception of one of these persons, all had sought professional help, yet that help alone did not work. It was only when God’s Word was introduced and utilized that change began to take place.
