Be Ye Transformed
By Bishop Sheldon D. Newton
There are many Christian books written today by people from all walks of life. Some know little about the Word and confuse the reader. Others know just enough to write an intelligent sounding book, but they leave the reader feeling empty or afraid of never being good enough to please God. But then there are those few Christian authors who write because it is a part of the God ordained calling upon their lives. Sheldon D. Newton is one of those writers. He was meant to write for God and it shows throughout his latest book, Be Ye Transformed.
The title, Be Ye Transformed, makes clear the subject of the book which is the transformation of each believer's life to the Word of God. The author's approach to teaching on the subject is an easy to follow step-by-step guide that covers every level of understanding to insure that even the Christian new to the Word can follow it. The teaching begins with the assurance of salvation which is followed by the Biblical truth that we are not just a body and soul, but more important, a spirit which has been recreated once saved. Sheldon continues to educate the reader on the subject of recreation and the actions to take once the believer realizes that although our spirits are reborn, our bodies and souls (intellect, senses and character) are not and must be renewed by the Word of God. I like what Sheldon says about always stating that we are a spirit first according to 1 Thessalonians 5:23, rather than a soul, body and spirit.
I also feel that the teaching Sheldon gives about spirit, soul and body is so crucial that if this was all that was included in the book I would still encourage Christians to obtain it. However, he doesn't stop there. Instead, he continues to help believers transform their lives by teaching how to recognize God's voice in order to receive His guidance, how to develop a strong spirit, how to love as God loves and much more. Learning the steps of Christian transformation will help the reader avoid the pitfalls of going back to one's old life before salvation. This can happen when one doesn't take responsibility for their spiritual life in Christ, but the book makes it very clear with scripture that every Christian has spiritual work to do in order to live a transformed life. Pastors should be accountable too and as a Bishop of his church, Sheldon wholeheartedly agrees. He boldly states that church leaders are not only responsible to live a spiritually mature life as well as all other Christians, but they will experience a greater and more severe judgment than that of their congregations if they choose to live a life of sin and disobedience to God.
The author has put himself on the line by writing a book that may cause his behavior to be scrutinized. It has been my experience that no one does that unless they have nothing to hide and are living according to their words. This validates the integrity of the book and gives assurance and encouragement that the teaching included can be successfully utilized to achieve the goal of Christian transformation. Be Ye Transformed is the type of book Christians should be reading! It's based upon scripture and written by a man who lives by the Word daily.
It's been said that one of the ways to be successful in life is to spend time with people who are already successful. Sheldon is the type of person to spend time with if you want to learn how to be a success in Christ. The next best thing is to read what he has to say. I highly recommend Sheldon's book to all Christians who want to achieve a successful Christian lifestyle.
