Summary For Dreaming Of A Father's Love (A Tale From the Ohio Valley)
Sharon A. Lavy has written a story about a young woman's inability to realize her blessings, but in time she comes to learn what it means to trust God. The story is a many-layered story of finding love, or realizing that it's been there all along.
The main character, Roberta Alexander, who goes by the Nickname Birdie, wants to make choices about her future for herself, but it's difficult with a father she feels is over-critical and harsh when he really wants the best for her.
During the summer after high school graduation all the dreadful events that happen to her family and friends could have sunk her, if not for the deep-seated faith which was her foundation. Dealing with a love triangle, figuring out how to help or deal with her friends, both old and new, and her family, help her to realize her place in the community in which she lives and wants to stay.

Dreaming Of A Father's Love (A Tale From the Ohio Valley)
Sharon A. Lavy
Dreaming Of A Father's Love is a beautiful story that takes place in in 1973 in the Ohio Valley, yet it transcends all barriers of time and age. I fell in love with the main character, Roberta Mona Alexander, who goes by the nickname "Birdie" throughout the book. She is a wonderful mix of strength, intelligence, and vulnerability with a strong commitment to God that grows as the story evolves. Birdie has just graduated from high school and is ready to begin the rest of her life the way she has always planned it. However, as she discovers over time, a person's dreams are not always based upon what is meant to be. God always has a way of intervening as we use our faith, trust and obey Him. Birdie is no exception.
Page by page, Dreaming Of A Father's Love builds greater and greater excitement for the story and all the difficulties within the Alexander family, yet through it all, author Sharon Lavy manages to share Bible truths and Godly actions that should be utilized daily. They're truths that are Biblically correct and life-building, yet they never get in the way of the story, they only enhance it.
To share a little about the story, Birdie is committed to her family and even more to the family business, Alexander's, which is a nursery run by her father. He also creates new plant life and cultivates it there at the nursery. All Birdie can see, even beyond a college education, is that she must be a solid part of her father's life and business. She absolutely adores him and must have his recognition. However, rejection by her father seems to hit her hard and often, even at her most glowing moments of achievement within the business. Yet it's one of her twin brothers who seem to get all the accolades for being business savvy and more productive which Birdie believes is because he is a "guy" rather than a "female." Things remain the same for Birdie until an exciting opportunity shifts her in a new direction that not only brings her the excitement of romance, but the fulfilling of a life's dream for her boyfriend and one of her best friends who works for the Alexander's.
This is a story that underlines many facets of life that are still experienced in modern times. I highly recommend this book for all women, young and older looking for an inspiring Christian fiction story that really appeals to the heart.
