I believe Edward Mrkvicka's statement in his new book, The Gospel of IF, that the worst thing that can happen to anyone is expecting to go to heaven and then finding out too late that their path to eternity leads to hell. It is the purpose of Edward's book to enlighten Christians while they still have the chance to make a choice. He teaches that Christians must obey God's scriptures of obedience within the context of their meaning. We must look at the promises or blessings in the Bible with the understanding that we must first fulfill God's teachings of obedience which are the qualifiers for what we want. We can receive God's blessings "if" we follow what God has asked us to do concerning obedience to His Word. Therefore we need to keep our lives straight with the Bible.
Edward Mrkvicka says that the Word of God should be studied voraciously and that Christians should read every part of the scriptures and live them exactly as stated. I look at The Gospel of IF as a spiritual challenge because what Edward is asking his readers to do is the right thing. He is telling Christians to read the Bible and live it according to God's truth, not as a means of validation for living a worldly life by conveniently changing it's meaning. His book is an inspiration for Christians to commit themselves to reading the Word of God for the rest of their lives, asking for forgiveness where they are not in line with the Word, repenting and changing according to the scriptures rather than committing the same sins over and over again. Jesus says in Matthew 18:21-22 that we should forgive seventy-seven times, but by expecting God to forgive us for the same sins without repentance, we can eventually be lead astray from salvation.
I certainly believe in continued personal Bible study. In my early twenties I was all but kicked out of my family church for having the radical idea of reading the Bible more in Sunday school class. When I left, I visited a new church every week until I found one that helped me understand the Bible because it was difficult for me to read and know where to begin as a "baby Christian." Once I understood how to study, I continued to this day because I came to realize that I am the only person who can take responsibility for living my salvation. It's the same for everyone. We must keep our faces turned to God in study and in prayer to live successfully in Christ and to know when someone or any entity is trying to lead us astray from the truth of God's word.
I encourage you to read Edwards Markvicka's new book, The Gospel Of IF because it will give you a deeper understanding of your responsibility to God's Word. As you learn to interpret the scriptures you will emerge with a deeper understanding of God, confidence about your salvation, and you will have the ability to know what is true or false concerning what you hear or read about the Bible. You will also find yourself in a position to claim God's blessings as yours because you have followed the gospel of if by obeying God's Word in its complete truth as you are guided by the Holy Spirit.
